Our painted canvas mats are made with heavy cotton canvas, which is primed, painted and varnished - all with water-based latex and acrylic products. Mats designated for the floor are given an additional coat of paste wax. Similar mats have been used on tables, chairs and floors for centuries. Over time they have been referred to as oil cloth, crumb cloths, stove cloths, floor cloths, rugs or mats. Their durability and easy maintenance make them just right for entry and hallways, kitchen, dining room, porch or other high use areas.

Originally crafted by hand, then factory made throughout the 1800’s, they are once again made by hand, blending art and craft in an endless variety of traditional and contemporary designs. The artist may utilize freehand painting, stencils, screen and block printing. Faux painting techniques can mimic traditional flooring materials.

Use and Care
Whether purchased as a focal point or as an accessory to existing decorative elements, your mat was created for everyday use. Following these simple suggestions should give you years of use and enjoyment.

Painted canvas floor mats are best used on a hard, flat surface with a thin, non-slip mesh rug pad underneath. Thoroughly clean area before laying down mat. If mat has been rolled, allow it to warm and flatten naturally. Never fold, crease or force your mat flat.

Clean regularly by first brushing away any dirt or grit. Wash with a sponge or mop and plain water. For stubborn stains, mild dish detergent may be added to water and rinsed afterward. Please do not use alcohol, ammonia, oil based or abrasive cleaning products. Wipe away any puddles of water on the surface or under mat.

Keep area under mat free of dirt and debris. Protection may be needed under heavy furniture legs and position of mat maybe rotated from time to time to avoid excessive wear. A non-yellowing paste wax (bowling alley wax) may be applied per manufacturer directions.

Flat is the best way to store your mats, protected with paper, cloth or plastic. You may also roll mats for storage and transport. Floor mats should be rolled onto a rigid tube about 4” – 6” wide.
